In spring 2020, graduating high school students receiving a scholarship from the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) were notified by postal mail. They received folders containing award certificates and information showing them how to access their funds.

Scholarships allow students to focus more on learning and less on how they will pay for their education.

It's time for the Class of 2021 to apply for HCCF scholarships by completing the Universal Scholarship Application. Scholarships are available for students planning to attend a two- or four-year college program, or vocational or technical school.

By submitting the Universal Scholarship Application, graduating high school students can apply for the Building Our Future and Indiana University Southeast renewable scholarships, Founders Vocational Scholarships and most of HCCF's charitable endowment scholarships at the same time.

The application is open on www.hccfindiana.org/scholarships. The deadline to submit applications is Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. Only completed online applications will be considered.

Also, applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit the confirmation page from FAFSA to be considered. The website to fill out the FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov.

A point-based system will be used to select scholarship recipients based on specific criteria. Applicants can earn points from grade point average, the type of diploma they will earn upon graduation, dual credit courses completed, work experience, community service, extracurricular activities, and honors and awards.

This year, due to the cancellation of numerous test dates, ACT/SAT scores will not be included in the scoring.
