Fund Purpose Provides scholarship support to graduating seniors of Harrison County high schools. Recipients must be pursuing a career in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.
Fund Story The Harrison County Agricultural Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at the Harrison County Community Foundation in 2004. The fund provides scholarship support to graduating seniors of Harrison County that intend to pursue a career in agriculture or an agriculture related field.
The Harrison County Agricultural Memorial Scholarship Fund was originally organized by a group of Harrison County farmers as a memorial to deceased farmers in Harrison County. Contributions to the fund can be made in memory of deceased farmers and in memory of people associated with agriculture.
Several years ago the Harrison County Pork Producers started sponsoring a scholarship for Harrison County High School graduating seniors that were pursuing a career in agriculture related fields. When the Harrison County Pork Producers disbanded in 2004, their board of directors voted to transfer all Pork Producer funds to the Harrison County Agricultural Memorial Scholarship Fund to ensure that funds would continue to be available for agricultural scholarships.
The Memorial Fund Board of Directors voted to transfer all funds to the Harrison County Community Foundation to take advantage of the opportunity to double the value of the funds available for scholarships. The Pork Producers contribution soon followed and was also matched.
This memorial is now positioned to provide scholarships for many years. Graduating seniors of Harrison County high schools pursuing a career in agriculture or an agriculture related field are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
