Fund Purpose Provides support for scholarships for graduating high school seniors of Corydon Central High School who are pursuing careers in medicine and/or health care.
Fund Story The family of Matthew Dale Faith remembered and honored him by forming a scholarship fund at the Harrison County Community Foundation. The Matthew D. Faith Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors at Corydon Central High School wishing to continue their education in pursuit of a career in the medical field.
Matthew was born September 14, 1976 in Harrison County, Indiana. He was the son of Pam and Roger Faith of Laconia. Matthew had 2 brothers John Taylor and Nathan Faith. Matthew was a quiet child that enjoyed target shooting and he began a lifelong passion as a teenager for collecting Beatles’ music and memorabilia.
After graduating from South Central Jr.-Sr. High School and Prosser School of Technology in 1995 he began to work at Carver’s Body Shop in Corydon. Although he had rheumatoid arthritis, he loved to work with his hands and dreamed of one day owning and operating his own body shop with his brother, Nathan. He never allowed the pain and discomfort of his arthritis to prevent him from doing and enjoying the things he loved.
Matthew married Kristy Ferree of Elizabeth in 1998 and they later had two sons, Dylan Matthew and Drew Michael. They were his pride and joy and he cherished anything and everything he was able to do with them. Of all things Matthew was able to do in his 28 years, being a father was what he loved the most, and as many would agree it was truly what he was best at.
Matthew left behind not only his family, but many loving friends too. It seems that he left an impact or impression on most everyone he came in contact with. He was a very laid back happy-go-lucky sort of guy that you couldn’t help but love. “He was a devoted husband, loving father, and true and loyal friend. He is and will continue to be a greatly missed part of our lives,” said Matthew’s wife Kristy.
Matthew died in an automobile accident on February 3, 2005 on his way home from working at Ford Motor Company. His final resting place is in Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth.
