Fund Purpose Provides support for one-year educational scholarships for Harrison County, Indiana resident graduating high school seniors accepted into and attending an accredited institution of higher education in Indiana.
Fund Story The Harrison-Crawford Bar Association established a scholarship fund with the Harrison County Community Foundation in 2008. The Harrison Crawford Bar Association Scholarship will provide scholarship support to Harrison County graduating seniors who are accepted into and attend a two or four year private or public institute of higher education in Indiana. Area high schools will be invited to nominate one Harrison County, Indiana resident graduating senior for this special scholarship.
The Harrison-Crawford Bar Association is comprised of lawyers from Harrison and Crawford Counties, as well as lawyers from adjoining counties that practice in Harrison and Crawford Counties. Bi-annual meetings are held to discuss current and important legal issues affecting the community and legal system. In 2010, there were 52 members.
The association also sponsors various activities in the community that bring awareness to the law and the judicial system. In 2010, the Bar Association hosted the Appellate Court Oral Argument, known as "Appeals on Wheels" at Corydon Central High School, in honor of Law Day. High school and college students were invited to attend the "up close and personal" look at the Indiana judicial system at work. Additionally in 2010, the association co-sponsored a re-enactment of the landmark 1820 Indiana case, Indiana vs. LaSalle, at the Leora Brown School in Corydon.
"The establishment and continued support of this scholarship is of the highest priority for the Bar Association. Unlike many other charitable endeavors, this commitment provides the membership with the opportunity to directly impact the life of specific residents in our community, and the association firmly believes that the future of our community rests with the future of our youth," said Anne Walsh, 2010 President of the Harrison-Crawford Bar Association.
