Fund Story The Carl & Wilma Ott Scholarship Fund was established at the Harrison County Community Foundation in 2010 in memory of Carl & Wilma Ott to provide educational scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors who reside in Harrison County. This scholarship is presented each year to a local graduating senior who has completed seven years of 4-H.
Carl was born in Georgetown, Indiana, October 20, 1927. He passed away September 7, 2008. He retired in 1982 from Sun Oil Company after 25 years. After his retirement, he purchased and operated Georgetown Mill and Hardware. He was involved with many civic activities, including serving as president of the Floyd County Farm Bureau, a Soil and Water Conservation board member, and on various committees with the Floyd County 4-H. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lanesville and the Knights of Columbus in Harrison County.
Wilma was born in Palmyra, Indiana, August 28, 1928. She died January 5, 2009 at her home. She was a homemaker and avid gardener, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Lanesville, a former employee of the New Albany/Floyd County School Corporation food service staff at Floyd Central High School and Huber & Huber Transfer Co. of Louisville, KY.
Carl & Wilma lived on a farm in Georgetown for 50 years where they raised six children; moving to Lanesville in 2001. Carl and Wilma were both 4-H members in their youth. All six of Carl & Wilma’s children were ten-year 4-H members as well as were most of their twelve grandchildren.
The creation of this scholarship by Carl and Wilma’s children is a wonderful way to commemorate their beloved parents.
