Fund Purpose Provide support to the YMCA of Harrison County for the Open Doors program based on the then current financial assistance schedule of the YMCA.
Fund Story The Kerri Suzanne Windell fund was established at the Harrison County Community Foundation in 2010 by Kerri's parents, Donna L. Oexman and Bruce C. Windell, to provide support to the YMCA of Harrison County, Inc. for the Open Doors Program.
Kerri Suzanne Windell was born December 17, 1979 in Louisville, KY. She was the youngest of four children-brothers Eric and Jeffrey and sister Shannon.
Kerri attended school in Corydon from elementary to high school. She was involved in sporting activities throughout most of her life. She played soccer, softball, and was a member of the Harrison County Swim Team. In Junior High, Kerri set records in both shot put and discus on the track team. The discus record still stands 17 years later. Kerri enrolled in Tae Kwan Do where she progressed to earn a green belt. During her freshman year, she was a member of the Corydon Central volleyball team.
Kerri's main love, of course, was basketball. As a four-year old, she made a "Shoot-the-Hoop" shot at a varsity basketball game and won a monetary prize. She never quit shooting baskets. She played on various AAU teams beginning at age 12 along with playing on school teams from 5th grade on. By the end of her sophomore year, Kerri had received letters of interest from five Division 1 and II colleges. That same year Kerri was elected Most Valuable Player for the Corydon Central Lady Panthers as well as being named All-Conference. For seven consecutive weeks she led the county in scoring.
Kerri died in an automobile accident on Highway 62 in Corydon on May 27, 1996. She is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
This fund win assist in providing services at the YMCA of Harrison County to anyone who desires to participate, regardless of their ability to pay member ship or program fees. Kerri would have wanted to be remembered as someone helping others in this way.
