Fund Purpose Provides support for educational scholarships for graduating seniors of Corydon Central High School who participated on the golf team during their junior year.
Fund Story Kenny Miles graduated from Corydon High School, where he played basketball and was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award his senior season. He went on to serve in the United States Coast Guard before returning to Corydon. He entered the field of banking and worked his way up to eventually serve as President of The Corydon State Bank. Among his other activities, he served on the Corydon Town Board, Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation, and the Harrison County Hospital Board.
Kenny truly enjoyed attending sporting events, especially those involving the Corydon Panthers. Playing a round of golf was something he loved to do. He began playing golf in 1947 and continued until 2007, when his health would not allow him to continue. He served as President of Corydon Country Club on two different occasions and was the Club Champion 3 times. Kenny and wife Marg were married for 67 years before he passed away on September 13, 2008.
Jack Miles graduated from Corydon Central High School and was a 4-year member of the CCHS golf team. He was a part of teams that won two sectional, one regional, and four conference championships and advanced to the state tournament three times. He went on to earn four letters in golf at Western Kentucky University. He was inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame in 1989.
Jack taught in the Corydon schools for 32 years and coached the boys' high school golf team for 20 years before retiring in 2005. He began playing golf as a 6-year old, when his dad, Kenny, would take him to the golf course him. The two played countless rounds together. Jack was fortunate enough to win the Corydon Country Club and Old Capital Golf Club Men's Championship 34 times, and Kenny was there for all but the last one, which was won in his honor. Jack and his wife Debra still live in the Corydon area.
This scholarship is a way to commemorate the bond between Kenny and Jack.
