Fund Purpose Provides scholarship support to graduating seniors of South Central High School in Elizabeth, Indiana, who are accepted into and attend an accredited four-year public or private institution and who have participated on a school-sponsored athletic team.
Fund Story Donald and Fredrica Dones created a scholarship fund in March of 2011. This fund will provide educational scholarships for graduating seniors of South Central High School who have participated in athletics for a minimum of two years.
Donnie and Fredrica (Freddie) graduated from South Central High School in 1959, which was the first graduating class. Donnie received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee; and his Masters from Indiana University. He worked for the South Harrison Community School Corporation for 33 years. He was a teacher, coach, and high school administrator for 22 years at South Central High School; and appointed as Administrative Assistant in the Central office for 11 years. Donnie retired in 1996. Freddie received herundergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University. She taught business classes at South Central for 31 years and coached basketball and track at the Jr. High level. Freddie retired in 2000.
Athletics has always been a big part of their lives. Donnie was able to attend college because of the scholarships he received for basketball. The Dones’ have two sons, Donald and Joe. Both graduated from South Central and participated in many sports while in high school.
The South Harrison Community School Corporation and South Central High School have always been a big part of their lives. Establishing this fund is a way to give something back in return to show their appreciation for the opportunities they received as members of the community.
