Fund Purpose
Provides support for educational scholarships for Harrison County residents graduating from Corydon Central High School who participated in high school athletics for at least three years and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Fund Story
The Vicki Engleman Family Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by her family as a way to honor her life and to give back to the young people that she loved so much.

Vicki Mott Engleman was born August 21, 1950, in Harrison County, Indiana, to the late John Merle and Vivian June Lee Mott. She had seven siblings (Shirley Ruble, Susie Plunkett, Jennie Ann Wright, Bob, Bill, George, and Jerome Mott). Vicki married Richard “Dick” Engleman on May 21, 1971. They had three children; Craig Engleman (Melissa), Jennie Engleman Capelle (Dan), and Josh Engleman. They also had five grandchildren; Cortlin Engleman, Madison Engleman, Sidney Capelle, Macey Capelle, and Cameron Engleman.

Vicki’s pride and joy were her five grandchildren. She loved attending their events and especially enjoyed having all of them together at her home. They were always doing something fun and being silly. It was never a dull moment at Mamaw Vicki’s house.

Vicki was a genuine and kindhearted person. She retired from the South Harrison School Corporation and enjoyed her years of working there. She was especially honored to serve as a member of the South Harrison School Board of Trustees. She loved her Corydon Central Panthers and was a member of the Corydon Central High School Adult Booster Club. She cheered for the teams with the same enthusiasm that she lived her life. She never met a stranger and was often described as someone who always rooted for the underdog. She felt everyone deserved to be someone special and would go out of her way to make a difference. Vicki was also an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in New Middletown, Indiana.

In February 2011, Vicki became ill and was told she needed a heart transplant. Her first inclination was to reject the option of receiving a new heart. After two and one half years of giving a good fight, Vicki reluctantly agreed, and was placed at the top of the transplant list. The right match never came. On November 18, 2014, Vicki passed away peacefully at home, holding the hands of her children and husband of 43 years. In the days that followed, her family took comfort in knowing that God’s plan for Vicki wasn’t a new heart. He had called her home with the one of a kind heart he had given her at birth. It had served her well and it was fitting she returned to her creator with the heart that loved so many.

Vicki’s family said, “It is our hope to keep her spirit and passion for life alive in the community. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to create a fund in her honor. It has been humbling to see the outpouring of support. We hope the scholarship will benefit a young person by helping them achieve their goals and they will feel a sense of community and want to live here for many years to come. Starting a memorial fund, truly helps with the healing process after losing a loved one. It provides an avenue to keep that special person’s memory alive”.
