First Harrison Bank Ivy Tech Scholarship Fund
Fund Number: 028
Fund Purpose
Provides scholarship support to Harrison County, Indiana residents enrolled in an Ivy Tech Community College program of study.
Fund Story
The First Harrison Bank Ivy Tech Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 to provide scholarship support to Harrison County residents attending Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg.
First Harrison Bank’s roots run deep in Harrison County history. Established in February 2000, a result of a “merger of equals” between First Federal Bank (based in Corydon) and Harrison County Bank (based in Palmyra). Their history of serving Harrison County dates back to the late 1800’s.
When First Harrison Bank was formed Chief Operations Officer Bill Harrod stated, “We are both strong supporters of the community in terms of our time, talent and monetary support. When you put us together, I think the community really wins. In five or six years from now, the community will benefit strongly. That’s who is going to benefit, and that’s what it is all about.”
Each one of their Board of Directors and Staff Members take great pride in serving this community through leadership roles in many community events and organizations. First Harrison Bank has been named “Most Outstanding School Sponsor” for their participation in the South Harrison School Business Partnership (New Middletown Elementary) in addition to receiving the 2001 BKD Award for Excellence and Innovation through the Community Bankers Association of Indiana for this program. The staff members proudly participate in community fund raising activities such as the Relay For Life of Harrison County, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake, American Heart Walk and the March of Dimes Walk America in addition to serving breakfast to the Harrison County 4-H members and parents each morning of the Harrison County Fair.
First Harrison Bank provides monetary support to numerous organizations such as Harrison County YMCA, Friends of Harrison County Youth, North Harrison Cal Ripken, Lanesville Youth League, South Harrison Athletic Corp, Lanesville Heritage Weekend, Community Unity, Leadership Harrison County, Habitat for Humanity of Harrison County and of course all area schools – in addition to other great organizations.
The philosophy at First Harrison is that anything that improves the quality of life for the residents of our community ultimately benefits them as well.
Ivy Tech Foundation partners with donors to invest in Ivy Tech Community College students, faculty, and programs to build stronger communities and a better Indiana. As a statewide, open-access, community college, Ivy Tech Community College provides residents of Indiana with professional, technical, transfer, and lifelong education for successful careers, personal development, and citizenship. There are 23 Ivy Tech campuses located throughout Indiana. The Ivy Tech Southern Indiana campus serves Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Washington, Scott, Orange and Crawford counties in Indiana, as well as the metropolitan Louisville area.
The Harrison County Community Foundation takes great pride in our capabilities to provide so many scholarships to Harrison County students. We were honored to have partnered with First Harrison Bank to help establish this fund.
