Fund Purpose
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of North Harrison High School accepted into and attending an accredited vocational training program or two- or four-year accredited public or private institution of higher learning.

Fund Story
The North Harrison Lions Clubs Scholarship Fund was created at the Harrison County Community Foundation in 2002.  The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support to graduates of North Harrison School Corporation.

Three Lions Clubs came together to create this fund.  The New Salisbury Lions Club created in October 1997, Palmyra Lions Club in June 1989 and the Ramsey Lions Club in March 1989.

Charlie Crawford, a founding member of the New Salisbury Lions Club, said that “the Lions Clubs are like ‘cheerleaders’ of the community.  They are always there when a need comes up in the community.”

Indiana Lions Clubs have an interest and dedication to helping the blind and preventing eye related diseases.  They fundraiser for the Leader Dog School in Rochester, Michigan and through their Eye Bank they provide approximately 1600 cornea transplants in Indiana every year.  The local clubs provide eyeglasses for low-income children in their communities.  They have purchased over $5,000,000 in cancer prevention equipment for the IU Medical Center including a Gamma Knife which treats tumors of the brain.  They also provide loaner hearing aids through the Speech and Hearing Department at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for any indigent person in Indiana.  They have also helped to provide playground equipment for children in their communities.

More recently, the Lions Clubs in Harrison County have become involved in the Operation Kids Sight Program.  This program provides eye photo screening that identifies children that may have a defect, which if left untreated could lead to a lifetime of vision problems or blindness.   This photo screening is conducted at daycares, schools and other childcare centers.

The North Harrison Lions Clubs have a Leo Club at North Harrison High School which is the student version of the Lions Club. Through this program they have the opportunity to teach students to become involved in the community, to help their neighbors and to serve as community leaders.

Through this endowment, the North Harrison Lions Clubs have made a meaningful, permanent contribution and have set a lasting example of community leadership.
