Nonprofit board training opportunity will provide return on investment
The Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) wants nonprofits serving our community to be strong and able to effectively respond to community needs. In order to do this, the nonprofits’ boards of directors need to follow effective governance practices. As a result, HCCF funds a nonprofit board governance training program.
The next board training session will be held on two Tuesdays – Oct. 8 and 15 – from 4 to 8 p.m. in the HCCF conference room, and a light meal will be provided. Participants will learn about the 10 basic responsibilities of boards of directors. To earn a certificate of completion, participants must attend both days of the training.
To make a reservation, send $200 to HCCF at P.O. Box 279, Corydon, IN 47112 by Wednesday, Oct. 2. The cost of the training will be refunded after successful certificate completion.
June Miller, a nonprofit consultant and a BoardSource certified board governance trainer, will lead the training session. Miller has more than 20 years of corporate and nonprofit training experience.
HCCF encourages nonprofit board and staff members to take advantage of this training opportunity. Nonprofits that apply for grant funding are required to have at least one current board member who has completed an HCCF-approved nonprofit board governance training program.
John Roberts, Executive Director of Freed From Within, Donnie Whitlow, the secretary of Freed From Within’s board, and Rodney Shehorn, a member of the organization’s Capital Campaign board, participated in the nonprofit board training session held at HCCF in June.
“The return on investment is priceless,” Roberts said. “It has helped to streamline our program, and the education and tools provided are so beneficial. My recommendation to any not-for-profit, whether beginning or established, is invest in this training. The value of it will lead to a successful program.”
