Fund Story
The Michael A. Bennett “Cool Guy” Media Scholarship Fund was established by friends and family shortly after Michael passed from this life in October 2015. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer for nearly three years.
Michael Alexander Bennet was the son of Dr. David and Kathi Bennett. He had a large loving family that included brothers David, Kevin, Matthew and Tim, plus a sister, Katherine. Michael was a 2008 honors graduate of Corydon Central High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in telecommunications from Indiana University in Bloomington in 2012.
Michael had many passions in this life. He was an exceptional award-winning writer with a gifted speaking voice, and he was a voice-over artist by profession with Perfect Cut Productions in Chicago, Illinois. His many friends and family are quick to point out Michael’s deep compassion for others, his spirituality and his genuinely selfless nature.
Michael enjoyed the art of movie production, video game development, and camera work, as well as writing and critiquing, and he was the recipient of student film awards in Los Angeles, California. He had great times collecting comic books and classical literature. Michael loved boxing, golf, fencing, video games, Comic Con (which he attended in San Diego), movies, target shooting, the Colts, a good pepperoni pizza and, above all, hanging out with his many friends and family.
Integrity was always important to Michael. He felt it was important for people to do the right thing. Michael looked for that in others and lived that example by working hard and keeping his word.
Considered recipient(s) of this award are college students with a minimum of 24 credit hours and a plan to major in media and/or communications. A passion for writing and various forms of media will be essential for success in this field.
The recipients need to be in good academic standing at a college or university. However, Michael was fun loving, so he would also require the candidates to enjoy the application process and not stress about it!
