Fund Story
Larry and Leslie Robertson chose to establish the Larry and Leslie Robertson Builder’s Fund in March 2016. The fund provides support as directed by the Harrison County Community Foundation Board of Directors for programs or activities that fulfill charitable or other exempt purposes benefiting Harrison County.
Larry and Leslie live in northern Harrison County. They enjoy the county’s small-town atmosphere while appreciating that it’s close to Louisville.
“As lifelong residents of Harrison County, we believe it is a great place to live, work and raise a family,” Leslie said.
Larry graduated from North Harrison High School in 1970, and Leslie graduated from Corydon Central High School in 1976. After graduating from high school, Larry was drafted into the Army while a student at Indiana State University, and he was stationed in Berlin, Germany for two years.
Larry and Leslie met during a reunion of Harrison County fair queens in July 1981. Larry’s sister, Rita, was the fair queen in 1974, and she crowned Leslie fair queen in 1975. Leslie crowned her and Larry’s eventual sister-in-law, Jill, in 1976.
Larry and Leslie married on April 24, 1982. They have two daughters: Cari and Stacy.
Cari graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from IU Southeast in 2008. Stacy became the Harrison County Fair Queen in 2006, and she graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in geology and sociology from IU Bloomington in 2009.
Larry was the co-owner and president of Robertson Crushed Stone in Depauw for many years. The company supplies its customers with rich reserves of calcium carbonate.
“It was really with his support that I was able to do all the volunteer work,” Leslie said. “Since he was the one who worked, it allowed me to be able to stay home with our girls and pursue my community service work.”
Leslie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from IU Southeast in 1994. She has been heavily involved in community and public service in Harrison County and southern Indiana.
Leslie served on the North Harrison Community School Corporation Board for eight years, and she was the District 1 representative of the Harrison County Council from 2007 to 2010. Leslie also devoted time to the Harrison County Hammerheads and the Metro United Way Harrison County Campaign, and she has been involved with the Harrison County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition since 1996.
Leslie became a board-elect member of the HCCF Board of Directors in January 2015, and she became an official board member the following year. Leslie has enjoyed seeing HCCF’s impact on Harrison County. Before joining the HCCF board, she had served on the board of the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana for several years.
Larry and Leslie chose to establish a builder’s fund because they liked that builder’s funds are designed to fund projects that benefit Harrison County and its residents. They believe that the HCCF board members will be able to see community needs and determine how the money in their builder’s fund will be spent.
“We believe in the mission of the Harrison County Community Foundation, and have confidence that our contribution will be used wisely to invest in projects for the betterment of Harrison County and its residents,” Leslie said.
