Foundation sets dates for quarterly Board Governance Training

Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) provides the tools new and experienced nonprofit board members need to succeed in their role. HCCF will hold this one-day nonprofit board governance training session four different times in 2024. The dates are Saturday, February 17, 2024; Tuesday, April 16, 2024; Saturday, August 17, 2024; and Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Each session will last from 9 am to 3 pm in the Foundation’s conference room. Lunch will be provided.

Nonprofits applying for grant funding through HCCF are required to have at least one current board member who has completed an HCCF-approved nonprofit board governance training program. Besides this requirement, HCCF encourages nonprofit board and staff members to take advantage of this training opportunity to increase their knowledge. Participants must attend the entire training to earn a certificate of completion. The cost of the training is $100, which will be refunded after successful completion of the training.

The training session will be led by Ed Cortas, Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNPE) Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Consulting. Participants will learn how a board of directors can best make decisions that steer the nonprofit’s work. They will also learn about board members' legal duties and responsibilities and how they are accountable to the Internal Revenue Service, the state Attorney General and the communities they serve.
