The Harrison County Community Foundation and Mason Investment Advisory Services, Inc. are proud to present Charitable Planning 2023, a continuing education opportunity for professionals in the field. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 26, 2023.

The session includes three modules, designed to help financial planners serve their clients better. The first module is titled “How to Talk with Clients about Death and Taxes.” The speaker will discuss how to engage with clients about the topic of death and taxes and how the current economic downturn may impact those conversations. The second module includes an overview of the charitable planning process with the typical questions and concerns that arise in the planning process. Changes made by the SECURE Act, the CARES Act (2020), and the CARES II Act (2021) that impact charitable planning and tax benefits for charitable giving will be covered. The third and final module is titled “Ethical Considerations in Talking with Clients about Charitable Giving Options.” This session will cover potential biases in gift design, conflicts of interest, public policy issues, and model standards of practice for the charitable gift planner.

The presenter for this session is Laura Hansen Dean, J.D., Attorney at Law. Laura is recognized as one of the most experienced and knowledgeable charitable gift planners in the country. For over thirty years, she has assisted individuals and their advisors in considering and designing charitable giving plans as part of personal financial planning and estate planning. She has worked with business owners, corporate executives, employees, entrepreneurs, families with inherited wealth, family-owned businesses, professional practices, and individuals of modest means to individuals listed on the Forbes list of wealthiest Americans.
