Corydon, Ind. (October 29, 2025) – After much anticipation and excitement, the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) hosted a Groundbreaking Ceremony on October 27, 2025, for the new Boys & Girls Club (BGC) North, located just south of the Palmyra Fire District building on IN-135. This exciting project was first announced in December 2024. Since then, the project team has been working diligently on the plans and design work for the future facility, laying the groundwork for its construction.

The new BGC North facility will span over 20,000 square feet and offer a variety of activity spaces, classrooms, a gymnasium, a commercial kitchen, and dedicated office spaces for program staff. It will be designed to mirror the Corydon Club, ensuring quality, affordable, and accessible childcare is available to children and families in northern Harrison County and surrounding areas. The site will offer after-school programs and full-day school break and summer childcare, with engaging youth programming for kindergarten through 8th grade. The BGC model promotes a safe and nurturing environment which encourages children to build friendships, focus on academic growth, and make healthy lifestyle choices. By expanding childcare services, this project not only impacts the lives of young people and supports families, but also contributes to the long-term economic prosperity of Harrison County. BGC North will also offer opportunities for individuals and groups to rent the gymnasium and kitchen for events and activities.

“We are thrilled to begin construction on a new Boys & Girls Club in northern Harrison County! This facility represents more than just a building – it’s an investment in our community’s future. By offering additional childcare options and youth programs, we’ll be able to reach and support more local children and families than ever before,” said Kim Grizzel, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Harrison-Crawford Counties.

Design-Builder Jeff Shireman, with Shireman Construction Management, is the lead on this project, along with the dedicated teams from TowerPinkster and Paul Primavera & Associates. These project team members, as well as the Boys & Girls Club of Harrison-Crawford Counties and HCCF, have put their full efforts into the final design and engineering work.

“The BGC North project addresses an important community need for more childcare options for families. Since the announcement of the Boys & Girls Club North project, we have received an outpouring of support about what this means for children and families in our community,” said Julie Moorman, HCCF President & CEO. “We are excited to transition from the design phase to the construction phase.”

The idea of a new Boys & Girls Club in northern Harrison County originated from Vision Project 2024, a county-wide planning initiative led by HCCF to determine the top 10 priorities for Harrison County. With input from over 50 community leaders and results from a public survey, childcare was identified as one of the top 10 priorities for the county’s future. Partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Harrison-Crawford Counties, HCCF submitted a proposal to Lilly Endowment Inc., and was awarded a generous $4.49 million GIFT VIII (Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow) Implementation Grant to bring this vision to reality. The HCCF Board of Directors also committed $3 million to support the overall project, which is projected to cost $7.6 million.

All funds for this project’s construction have been secured. Next, BGC will launch a fundraising initiative to raise funds for furniture, equipment, and supplies for the new Club. Community members, employers, and other key stakeholders have opportunities to show their support by contributing to the BGC fundraising efforts.

Moorman shared, “It takes a village to embark on a large-scale project like the new BGC North Club, and I want to personally thank the residents and community leaders who have shown their support for this project coming to Palmyra.”
